Club Chairman Matt Clare welcomed players, parents, siblings, grandparents and friends to what he hoped will be the first of many end of season presentation days for PSG FC at Herbert’s Farm. Every player received a trophy as reward for their hard work this season, and one player from each age group was awarded the coveted ‘Players Player of the Season’ as chosen by their team mates. The commitment of Hannah Jorgensen was also recognised by being awarded ‘Club Member of the Season’.
“It is with immense pride that we look back on our first full season, with three brilliant groups of girls having played regular league football all over the country (quite literally) it seems. And what great performances they’ve all given.
The journey we’ve been on has been relatively short but it feels to me that we’ve come a long way. It was only 2012 when the parent Clubs, Plantation YFC and Spartak 78 YSC, agreed that the best way forward for Girls football in Saffron Walden was to put together the two independent groups we were running, and form a joint venture. After months of discussion, PSG FC was formed, the girls started to train together, and we’ve never looked back.
During the year we’ve had two visits to watch Arsenal Ladies FC at Borehamwood where the girls were flag-bearers and ball girls. We’re very popular with Essex County FA as we’ve viewed as a great example of what can be achieved with the right support. We’ve gone from nought to 50+ registered players in little over a year; we’ve only just started!
Girls’ football is on the rise in this country and we’re right at the heart of it. But it would not be possible without the tireless work of your coaches and the fantastic committee. I must record my personal gratitude to two people specifically. James Broughall (Club Secretary) is the glue that holds the Club together and often this will be unseen by many of you. And Tim Piggott is in every sense the heartbeat of the club- he never stops working on your behalf, and we are grateful to him.
Enjoy the afternoon, and let’s look towards the tournament and next season”!
