Our youngest players, in Reception and Years 1, 2 and 3, enjoyed a morning’s training session at The Meadow, Catons Lane – the home of Saffron Walden Town Football Club, on Saturday 7th October. The session was coached by Andrew Heinrich and included a warm up, some ball mastery and skills works and then finished with small-sided games.

We will be back at our usual venue of Herbert’s Farm, Debden Road next Saturday (14th October) from 9am to 10am for these ages.

Saffron Walden PSG FC U10 Girls Blues versus Bottisham U10 Girls

Saffron Walden PSG FC U10 Blues welcomed Bottisham U10s to Herbert's Farm on Saturday morning (17th April) for the first ever meeting between these two teams, and PSG's first league match since December.
After mixed results in friendly matches over the past two weeks, PSG were very up for this week's challenge, and they started the match strongly. Holly, Emily and Franzi put immediate pressure on the Bottisham defence, with some good passing and attacking play. New player Grace was strong and confident in midfield, tackling well and working non-stop. Bottisham broke forward on occasion, but Sophie and Lilac were calm in defence.
In the second quarter, Violet joined the midfield, along with another new player, Ava, and Claudia took a turn up front. The girls attacked well, showing some great teamwork and passing, and Holly, Claudia and Ava all very nearly scored. PSG were awarded a penalty for a hand ball, and Sophie nervously stepped forward from defence to take it. She shot the ball hard into the top left corner, scoring her first ever league goal for her team.
After half-time, PSG again started strongly, however, the Bottisham team found their confidence and started to put a lot of pressure on PSG, with Ava and Lilac having to work hard in defence and Naama being kept busy in goal, making some important saves.
In the final quarter, both teams had chances to attack, and Emily made some great runs forward for PSG. Both teams had to work really hard to keep the ball away from goal, and Naama showed confidence in passing the ball out from defence.
The final whistle was quite a relief after an enjoyable but very tense and close match, with an excellent performance by both teams. We’re looking forward to the reverse fixture in a few weeks’ time.

Ramsey Colts FD U8 Leopards Girls versus Saffron Walden PSG FC U8 Girls Blues

It was SW PSG FC U8s Girls Blues first ever away game! Every member of the team was outstanding from kick off and showed passing and shooting skills that wouldn't have been out of place at an under 10s game.
Holly opened the scoring in the first few minutes with Elsa shaving the post after a beautifully well-timed run and through-ball from Holly. Molly added to the score and seemed to cover every metre of the field throughout the first 10 minutes. Sophia also found the back of the net in the second quarter. Flora was her usual ‘bulldog’-like self, tirelessly defending and attacking in equal measure. Ellla came close to scoring early in the third quarter, after a Gazza-style run from midfield, with Sophia also adding to her tally. Despite an ankle injury, Holly ended her day with further goals in the final quarter. A performance that the team should be extremely proud of.
